After Tamil Nadu’s thumping win over Gujarat in the second semi-final, Dinesh Karthik-led side extended their winning streak to 10 wins in the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament. The 18th edition started last month in Dehradun when Nagaland took on Manipur in a rain-affected abandoned game. Tamil Nadu will now go up against Karnataka for the title clash on October 25 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Tamil Nadu – A road to the final

Tamil Nadu was the only unbeaten side in the Elite Group C points table, winning all nine of their matches. They opened their campaign in style as they defeated Rajasthan in their first game of the ongoing 18th edition. They followed it up with a huge 212-run win over the Services, dismissing them for just 82 in their unsuccessful run-chase.

After an impressive start to the tournament, Tamil Nadu went on to register victories over Bihar, Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Railways to consolidate their position at the top of the standings. In the match against Madhya Pradesh that followed, Abhinav Mukund’s solid 147 at the top helped Tamil Nadu post a huge 360-4 in their 50 overs. Madhya Pradesh then faltered in their chase to handover Tamil Nadu their second 200+ run victory in the 2019 edition. Their semi-final clash against Gujarat was reduced to a 40-overs match due to wet outfield. The dampening conditions did not halt Tamil Nadu’s rampant run as they defeated Parthiv Patel-led side by 5 wickets and one over to spare.

By remaining the only unbeaten team in the tournament, Tamil Nadu will be looking to end their campaign on a high note as they chase their sixth Vijay Hazare title. The last time they won the tournament was during India’s 2016-17 domestic season when Dinesh Karthik’s batting exploits won them several matches in that edition.
