As Virat Kohli scored yet another T20I half-century to guide Indian cricket team to victory over the visiting Proteas, the right-handed batsman once again reached a unique milestone of averaging over 50 in all three formats of the game. The Indian captain is also one of those rare batsmen in world cricket who has scored more centuries away from home in both Tests and ODIs. Out of his combined 68 international centuries, 30 of his tons came on Indian pitches.

Test performance in SENA countries:
SENA countries (short for South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) are known for dishing out pitches that assist seamers and fast-bowlers. While still in his early years in Test cricket, Virat had a forgettable tour of England in 2014. England’s pacer James Anderson got him out several times as the batsman scored only 134 runs in 10 innings across five Tests of that series. On India’s next tour to England in 2018, the Indian captain silenced all his critics by smashing 593 runs. Kohli got the better of his opposite number James Anderson and the batsman ended the tour as the highest run-getter of the series.
The Indian captain has enjoyed similar success in Australia as well. On his first Test tour of Australia in 2011, Kohli scored his maiden Test century in the final match of that series. For his second tour ‘Down Under’, the cricketer smashed four centuries in four matches, including twin centuries in the first game itself. On India’s 2018-19 tour, Kohli led the Indian team to their first-ever Test series win in Australia.
The world number 2 Test batsman has also scored two centuries in South Africa and one century on a challenging seam-friendly track at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, New Zealand. All eyes will once again be on Captain Kohli when the Indian team tours New Zealand early next year. Team India is scheduled to tour New Zealand for a 2-match Test series along with a limited-overs series against the hosts as well. The Test series will also continue India’s campaign in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.
ODI record away from home:
With over 11,000 ODI runs, Kohli has been as effective in India as he has been away from home. To this date, the star batsman has scored 6,927 runs away at a Bradman-esque average of 59.21. In addition to his 24 away centuries, the stylish number 3 batsman also has 34 half-centuries to his name. Kohli’s overall ODI career average of 62.07 is the highest among all batsmen who have scored more than 10,000 runs.
