Virat Kohli Registers Unwanted Record With His Test Fifty Against New Zealand In Bengaluru

Virat Kohli , the veteran Indian batter, has achieved an unwanted record during the ongoing first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. He became the slowest Indian to reach 9000 runs in Test cricket, taking 197 innings to achieve this milestone.

Virat Kohli becomes fourth Indian to score 9000 Test runs

In comparison, other Indian cricket legends like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar reached this milestone in fewer innings. Dravid took 176 innings, Tendulkar took 179 innings, and Gavaskar took 192 innings to complete 9000 Test runs.

The 35-year-old Kohli reached the mark after crossing his half-century in India's second innings. Batting at No. 3, Kohli fell for a nine-ball duck in the first innings as India were all out for 46.

In the recent Test series against Bangladesh , Kohli became the quickest batter to complete 27,000 international runs in only 594 innings. 

The match is ongoing, and India is looking to make a comeback after a disappointing first innings. India were bowled out for a mere 46 runs after they won the toss and elected to bat first at Chinnaswamy Stadium. New Zealand then scored a mammoth 402 runs in reply to India's 46 with Rachin Ravindra hitting a century.

In the second innings, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a good to start to India before they were dismissed for 52 and 35 runs respectively. Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan then forged a crucial partnership of 136 runs as India finished Day 3 at 231/3. Kohli was dismissed for 70 runs on the final ball of the day.
