Virat Kohli dismissed for a duck after batting at No. 3 after 8 years

After only nine deliveries, Virat Kohli went for a duck, thus returning to the No. 3 batting position during the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand presented a difficult scenario. Kohli's first visit to No. 3 since 2016, when he faced the West Indies, His choice followed consistent No. 3 Shubman Gill's ruling out with neck stiffness, verified by the BCCI soon after the toss.

Given his experience with the Chinnaswamy Stadium as a local favourite, expectations were great that KL Rahul may clinch the third position. The squad decided, instead, to retain him in the middle order.

Early problems for India came with Tim Southee dismissing Rohit Sharma . India decided to bat first after winning the toss, although the circumstances were difficult as the ball swung noticeably. As Southee and Matt Henry bothered the Indian openers, Kohli seemed unsure. O'Rourke left the home fans stunned with a well-placed delivery that swung into Kohli, producing a glove touch that culminated in a catch by Glenn Phillips.

At No. 3, Kohli's stats are not too outstanding. Out of six matches, he has only amassed 97 runs at an average of 16.16. After 32 innings, this dismissal represented his first duck in Test matches; furthermore, it happened against New Zealand on their last trip to India in 2021.
