'Grave Disservice': Caribbean Greats Demand Apology From Brian Lara, Accuse Him Of Lying

Brian Lara recently released his book 'Lara: The England Chronicles'. The book revolves around West Indies' iconic tour to England in the 1990s.

Brian Lara has been one of the stalwarts of the game of cricket. Lara's technique and his fluent batting style makes him the legend he is. Till this date the former Caribbean skipper holds the record of highest individual score (400) in Test cricket. Lara, in his playing days was someone who was equally effective against pace and spin and the greats of the game such as Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath have always agreed to it.

Lara Faces The Heat From Caribbean Legends

Two stalwarts of West Indies cricket Carl Hooper and Viv Richards have accused Brian Lara of lying. The legendary Caribbean duo hit back at their former West Indies team-mate Lara for "gross misrepresentations" in his book Lara: The England Chronicles. Both Cooper and Lara released a joint statement and rejected Lara's claims that Richards made Hooper cry once every week. The duo has termed it as 'categorically false'. They have also asked the Caribbean great to issue a sincere apology.

The Statement Reads

Sir Vivian Richards and Mr. Carl Hooper are deeply disheartened by the gross misrepresentations made about them in Mr. Brian Lara's recently released book. The allegations presented not only distort the reality of their relationship but also impugn their characters in an unjust and harmful manner. Sir Vivian, as Mr. Hooper's first captain, has never caused emotional distress. The misrepresentation of their interactions in Mr. Lara's book is a grave disservice to the truth.

Richards And Hooper Accuse Lara Of Deceit

Two greats of West Indies cricket Brian Lara and Vivian Richards appeared in only one international match for West Indies. It was on ODI at Lords on West Indies' 1991 tour of England. In his book, 'Lara: The England Chronicles', the Caribbean great has expressed his grief about not getting much time with Viv in the middle. On the contrary, Lara and Hooper spent more time in the West Indies team. Lara has captained Hooper and vice versa. In his book, Lara has lavished praise on Hooper and has called him one of the finest ever to play for West Indies.
