'Was always groomed by MS Dhoni': Virat Kohli shares his thoughts taking over captaincy
Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on taking over India's captaincy role from the legendary skipper MS Dhoni, after serving as his deputy for many years.

Virat Kohli’s recent appearance on RCB podcast has become talk of town for cricketing world, as he has me several table revelations about his career on podcast. One of main topics Kohli spoke about was his time as all-format skipper of Indian cricket team. Kohli took over India’s captaincy role in 2014 after legendary captain MS Dhoni’s retirement from format and later became an all-format skipper later in 2017.
Speaking to host Danish Sait on RCB Podcast, Kohli revealed that Dhoni took him under his wings and groomed him for leership role from 2012 onwards. “I was his vice-captain. I was always having conversations with him about what we can do in field. I was always his right-hand man. I was always re understanding game and I also got confidence because I was playing a lot of match-winning kck for team,” said Kohli.

former Indian skipper furr mentioned that he also used to give a lot of inputs to Dhoni on field, and never shied away from going to captain during a tense situation in game. “I was never really only looking at scoreboard .. oh se many runs and se many runs. I was more into what’s pitch doing and what’s conditions are like, what can we do to break partnership.. all those kind of things. He understood that very early,” 34-year-old ded.
Crediting Dhoni for his smooth transition into a leer, Kohli ded that he will always respect former for his leership and playing style. former RCB captain also mentioned that he never h any ill intentions towards Dhoni and always respected his trust in him. Kohli furr explained how things were always very simple for team in presence of MS Dhoni.

“When I became captain, it was same. He will give me vice all time and I was able to tell him that I don’t want to use this at this moment and let’s go ahe and use this plan. It was very clear and very simple. re was never awkwardness, re was never ‘any of this’ he might feel b or I might feel b’. It never happened,” said Kohli. Dhoni shared Indian dressing room with Kohli from latter's debut in 2008 to 2019.
