Wasim had a setback in his life in his mid-30s, he was diagnosed with Diabetes. Even though Wasim Akram has been a severe patient of Diabetes he never gave up on his cricket career. Apart from playing the sport, he is a family man and also a fitness enthusiast when it comes to being in shape. Wasim follows a strict Workout and diet routine as he doesn't compromise with his fitness regimen. Wasim has been one of the greatest seam bowlers of all time and fitness plays a huge part in his craft.

Akram's Workout Schedule

  • He focuses on the inclined dumbbell press as it works mainly on the upper chest muscles and enhances the growth and definition of chest muscles. It also helps in growing the upper back which gives good posture.
  • Wasim's second preference is Decline leg raises that not only work on lower abs rather it is a great exercise to increase core strength
  • Cable Chest Fly is one of the most important workouts for the chest that mostly targets the side of the chest and the pectoral muscles. It isolates the triceps and stabilizes the shoulder joints. It enhances the definition and symmetry of the chest.
  • Lying dumbbell tricep mainly focuses on the tricep muscle also the inner biceps which Wasim is very fond of doing.

Why Chest Workout Is Beneficial for Diabetic Persons

He says that chest workouts target the core area of the chest and reduce the risk of cardiac arrest, especially for diabetic persons. Wasim follows the proper amount of macros and micros in his diet. Every day he has  a moderate amount of macros in his diet which includes Carbs, fat, and Protein also he focuses on complex carbs in his breakfast which includes oats, brown bread, boiled eggs, and muesli.
