Hosts England will be looking to bring their campaign back on track against Bangladesh at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Saturday. After starting their campaign on a high with a convincing 104-run win over South Africa in the curtain-raiser, Eoin Morgan's side suffered a setback against Pakistan by 14 runs. At the same time, Bangladesh have been tough for the English team as the Asian side has dominated them in the previous two editions. In fact, Bangladesh had ended England's 2015 World Cup campaign in the group stages.
Cut to the present, the coin landed in Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza's favour and he asked England to have a bat. There was no looking back for England as their destructive openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow made merry of the Bangladeshi bowling by hitting them to all parts of the ground. The duo added 128 runs for the opening wicket before Mortaza got rid off Bairstow for 51. However, his opening partner Roy made his bat do the talking as he registered his ninth One-Day International ton. Nonetheless, he got to his ton in a comical fashion.
In the 27th over which was bowled by Mustafizur Rahman, Roy pulled a short ball for a single. However, a misfield at deep square leg and the ball ran away to the fence as Roy notched up his century. But, Roy's eyes were on the fielder as he failed to notice that he was running towards the on-field umpire Joel Wilson. Both Roy and Wilson had a collision as the umpire was then seen lying flat on the ground. Luckily, nothing untoward happened as both men got to their feet. Meanwhile, Roy's team-mates Ben Stokes and skipper Eoin Morgan were seen having a hearty laugh at the balcony.
