The Indian women's cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur created history in the Asian Games 2022 and won a gold medal in their maiden appearance. The 'Women in Blue' defeated Sri Lanka in the gold medal match by 19 runs while defending a total of 117 runs. The Indian bowlers restricted the Sri Lanka women to a score of 97/8 in their 20 overs, and pacer Titas Sadhu starred with the ball and picked up three wickets.

India Women win historic Asian Games gold medal 

The Indian women's cricket team won the toss and elected to bat first in the India Women vs Sri Lanka Women Asian Games 2022 gold medal match. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had been dominant so far in the tournament and continued the same performance in the clash against Sri Lanka. Team India registered a first-innings score of 116/7 wherein Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues played innings of 46 and 42 runs respectively.

The Indian team didn't face much difficulty in defending the target and removed four Sri Lanka batters inside 50 runs. The Sri Lankan women from here were never allowed to come back in the match by the 'Women in Blue' and at last, they created history by winning the match by 19 runs.

Harmanpreet leaves behind previous disappointments after Asian Games glory

The 2022 Asian Games gold medal was the first major achievement for Indian women's cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Kaur led Team India to the finals and semi-finals of the 2018 and 2023 T20 World Cup but was not able to win the tournament. Harmanpreet also led the Indian team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal match, but at last, the team lost to Australia. The Indian team will now play in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the 2022 Asian Games glory will certainly boost their confidence in the upcoming major ICC tournament.
