Stephen Fleming talks about MS Dhoni's replacement
While CSK always finds a way to make decent recruitments to replace the ones who were released from the squad, but what about the irreplaceable? There is a dreaded realisation that the upcoming IPL 2024 season could be MS Dhoni's last as a player. Taking into consideration that Dhoni has been with the franchise since the inception of the IPL, and has been the biggest factor behind the success of the team, it would be a daunting task to find a replacement for Thala. Yet, the CSK coach has weighed in on the subject and admitted that it is topic of discussion.
"We've had succession plans for MS for about 10 years," he smiled. "It is going to be a talking point., but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we'll roll on."

Fleming also expressed his thoughts on the star signing of Daryl Mitchell. The former NZ captain justified the price of Mitchell (Rs. 14 crore) and defined him as a "good buy".

"He played just one game, so not massive shoes. Daryl is a different type of player, but his performances over the last 18-24 months have warranted this type of a price. He is an unfashionable player, often goes under the radar. With his ability to play spin he is competitive and he is also a handy bowler. In Chepauk, we can slide him into a role. Just like his performances, he fits in nicely and a good buy for us," he said.
