West Indies squad banned from training by New Zealand govt for breaching COVID protocols

New Zealand government on Wednesday banned the touring West Indies cricket squad from training for the remainder of their quarantine period

Despite returning negative for two COVID-19 tests, New Zealand government on Wednesday banned touring West Indies cricket squ from training for remainder of ir quarantine period. decision came as several members of Windies squ h breached COVID protocols at isolation facility in Christchurch. As per official statement, Windies Cricket Board has alrey begun an investigation into matter. 

Upon arrival in New Zealand, West Indies touring party were required to remain within bio-secure quarantine facility for 14 days. As per CWI statement, visitors have been charged by New Zealand government for mixing two separate West Indies bubbles by sharing food and socializing in hallways. However, visitors have maintained that re is evidence that any member of visiting squ left facility.

'Unable to train'

" New Zealand Ministry of Health has vised us that all members of West Indies touring party will w be unable to train for remainder of quarantine period and will have to complete ir quarantine within Mand Isolation Facility only. CWI is in full support of New Zealand Ministry of Health’s position," CWI statement re.

As reported in local media, New Zealand’s director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield asserted that it is a privilege to visit country but in return, Windies team has to stick to rules. “Keeping COVID-19 out of our communities and keeping our staff safe depends on it. y didn’t do that, despite agreeing to abide by parameters of exemption. My disappointment is our players are maybe most experienced in world at dealing with se strict quarantine measures,” New Daily quoted Bloomfield.

West Indies will lock horns with New Zealand in three T20s with first one beginning on vember 27 at Auckland. two teams will also eng in two Test matches at Hamilton and Wellington from December 3 onwards.
