World Cup 2019 | Aaron Finch beat this Ricky Ponting record as his superb century helps Australia beat Sri Lanka

Reigning World Champions Australia will be looking to register yet another win under their belt against Sri Lanka during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at Kennington Oval on Saturday. Their World Cup rivalry dates back to the 1996 edition when a spirited Sri Lankan outfit led by Arjuna Ranatunga stunned the Aussies to win their maiden World Cup.

Reigning World Champions Australia registered yet ar win under ir belt against Sri Lanka during ir ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at Kennington Oval on Saturday. ir World Cup rivalry dates back to 1996 edition when a spirited Sri Lankan outfit led by Arjuna Ranatunga stunned Aussies to win ir maiden World Cup. However, Aussies returned favour in 2007 as y went on to win ir record fourth World Cup crown and it was also ir third straight World Cup triumph. After five-time World Champions suffered a setback against India, y bounced back with a 41-run win over Pakistan.

Coming back to present, Australia put up an impressive performance with bat after Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne won toss and elected to bowl first. Both Aaron Finch and David Warner added 80 runs for opening wicket. But, once Warner was dismissed, Usman Khawaja followed him soon as Aussies were reduced to 100/2. Finch n added a 173-run partnership with Steve Smith for third wicket.

Aussie skipper anchored his team's innings and brought up his 14th ODI century. He ended up scoring a 132-ball 153 at a strike rate of 1115.91 which included 15 boundaries and five maximums. His superb kck helped Australia get to a big total of 334/7 in ir 50 overs. Meanwhile, Finch also registered highest individual score of this World Cup along with Jason Roy who had also scored 153 against Bangladesh last week. At same time, he went past Ricky Ponting's score of 140 to register highest score by an Australian captain in World Cups. Ponting had scored 140 against India in 2003 World Cup final.

Australia registered ir fourth win with a comprehensive 87-run margin as Sri Lanka couldn't capitalise after blistering start provided by Dimuth Karunaratne and Kushal Parera.
