Rohit Sharma continues to have a dream run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as he scored yet another blistering ton against Sri Lanka at Leeds on Saturday. This was the Indian vice-captain's third consecutive century in the ongoing quadrennial event. At the same time, the Hitman also became the first batsman to register five hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup which is also a record. He also added 189 runs with KL Rahul for the first wicket.
Sharma brought up his 27th ODI ton in the process. However, he could not last for too long as he was caught by Angelo Mathews at mid-off off Kasun Rajitha. The Hitman scored a 94-ball 103 at a strike rate of 109.57 which included 14 boundaries and two maximums. He was adjudged Man of the Match for his blistering knock.
After India's emphatic win over Sri Lanka, skipper Virat Kohli was seen taking his deputy's interview. When asked about how he felt contributing to the team in such a big way, Sharma said that it was an important tournament for the team.
"It is an important tournament for us. We had a really good form coming into the tournament as a batting unit. As a top order batsman, I would not say that it was my job rather I wanted to carry on the form which I had in the past, try and come into the World Cup."
The Indian vice-captain also added that his first World Cup ton against South Africa gave him the confidence and he also mentioned that as cricketers, one should not look at the past and stay in the present.
When asked about making an impact in World Cups, here's what the Hitman had to say.
"World Cup is a premier tournament. The focus has to be on your routine what you try and do in your bilateral games and things like that. So the focus has been on that. We know that the World Cup is important. It is the World Cup but it is a game of cricket and you have to do well to win the game of cricket. So that's what I try and think."
Kohli concluded by wishing Sharma luck for the last two games and hoped that the Men In Blue will lift the Cup again.
