The much-discussed run-out is that of Martin Guptill who was run-out in the last ball of the super over, sealing the fate for the Kiwis. The comparison that was being drawn was the run-out of MS Dhoni by Martin Guptill himself during the India versus New Zealand match that saw India being knocked out of the World Cup in the semi-finals on July 9.
Some netizens took to Twitter to rub more salt to the wounds of the Kiwis, attempting to blame 'karma' for 'getting back' at Guptill in a similar fashion of how he got MS Dhoni run-out. Read some of the reactions here:

Martin Guptill had multiple moments of misery on the field including getting run-out and an overthrow from his hand that gave England six runs, allowing them to level the score with that of the Kiwis. The incident had occurred on the third-last ball of England's innings, with the side then requiring nine runs to win from three balls. Stokes heaved a grounded shot and aimed to run for two. As the ball came in towards the end at which he was running, he dived to make it into the crease, and as he did so, the ball hit his bat, cannoning off to head to the boundary for four. The umpire signaled that it had been six runs.
