New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham scored 15 runs for the Kiwis in the Super Over and still could not get the team past the line, as they lost the World Cup finals to England based on the number of boundaries scored during their respective innings.

Chasing a target of 242 runs, England managed to level the scores in the last ball of the 50th over following which the Super Over was also tied in the last ball. According to the ICC, if a game is tied in the Super Over, then the team scoring the maximum number of boundaries in their innings is declared the winner. Hence, England were crowned the new World champions while an inconsolable New Zealand side lost their second consecutive World Cup final.
