Aakash Chopra wants Virat Kohli to continue to open the batting in the Super 8

For their 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Afghanistan, Aakash Chopra thinks India should stick with Virat Kohli as their opener. Thursday, June 20 is the day set for the match in Bridgetown, Barbados.

In three innings, Kohli has only scored five runs as an opener in this Twenty20 World Cup. He intends to give a big show against Rashid Khan and the Afghanistan Cricket Team.

If Kohli sticks at the top of the batting order, Chopra believes he can produce a game-changing century against Afghanistan in a video he uploaded on his YouTube channel. Aakash Chopra said:

“A big question that is doing the rounds is - Should Virat Kohli open? I am saying - Yes sir, 100% Virat Kohli should open, and if he opens in this game, I even feel it could be a Player-of-the-Match-like performance because he is that kind of player and has done well against this team as well,”

“It hasn't been good thus far, so as they say he will be very hungry. The run machine himself satiates his hunger for runs by scoring runs. So I feel Virat Kohli should firstly open. You wouldn't want to change your game plan entirely based on what happened in New York,”

The only T20I century by Kohli came in the opening match against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022. India's most recent match against Afghanistan saw Kohli removed for a golden duck, but he still has a stellar record against them. Over four Twenty20 International innings, he has scored 201 runs at an average of 67.00 and a strike rate of 171.79.
