Former Indian cricket opener, Gautam Gambhir, expressed great admiration for Afghanistan's remarkable performance against Pakistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In what was Pakistan's third consecutive defeat in the tournament, Hashmatullah Shahidi's team delivered a stunning performance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This defeat extended Pakistan's winless streak to three in the current edition of the World Cup, hosted by India.

Following this latest upset, Gautam Gambhir took to his social media handle to extend his congratulations to Afghanistan and boldly declared that Afghanistan was no longer the underdog at the World Cup.
Gambhir's post garnered a heartwarming response from netizens with some comparing it to the famous Roman Reigns phrase. It is noteworthy that Gambhir, who serves as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is close to Naveen-ul-Haq, who is in Afghanistan's ODI World Cup squad.

Turning to the recent World Cup encounter between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Noor Ahmad and Naveen-ul-Haq combined forces to restrict Pakistan to a total of 282-7 in the 50-over contest. Half-centuries from openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87) set the stage for a successful run-chase at the Chepauk. Pakistan's pacers, Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali, managed to claim only two wickets as unbeaten contributions from Rahmat Shah (77) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (48) sealed Afghanistan's historic eight-wicket victory over Pakistan.
