'I would have dropped him': Rohit Sharma On What If Suryakumar Yadav Had Dropped Miller's Catch

Relieved Team India players are also not letting the chance to disseminate humour go. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front in this regard as well.

Rohit Sharma is the man who made the dream of millions come true. After Kapil Dev, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the nation has its third World Cup-winning captain to take pride in. As the country is immersed in the splendor of Team India's incredible T20 World Cup win, the boys have become the men of the hour, attending felicitation ceremonies, one after another. One of the sort was held on Friday in Mumbai, where Mumbai players from the T20 World Cup 2024 side were hosted by the Maharashtra Chief Minister of the state Eknath Shinde. Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube reached the CM's residence and were rendered honor.

Rohit Sharma jokes about dropping Suryakumar Yadav had he dropped David Miller's catch

As the victory has brought a tremendous amount of joy, relieved players are being expressive to the fullest, talking about their win and the moments that made it happen. The entire country is eagerly wanting to listen to every word of each player. Seemingly aware of the state, players are also not letting the chance to disseminate humour go. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front in this regard as well.

During the ceremony at CM's house, Rohit joked that he would have dropped Suryakumar Yadav from the team had he not held on to David Miller's catch in the final.

"Suryakumar Yadav said the ball landed in his hands, it's good that it did..." Rohit said in Marathi. He took a pause and then added: "Otherwise, I would have dropped him from the team."

Rohit's comment even left CM Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in splits.

Suryakumar Yadav's catch won India the World Cup

Suryakumar Yadav's catch turned out to be the most pivotal part of the match. As 16 runs were needed in the last over, it could have been anybody's game, however, it was advantage South Africa as a premier striker in the form of David Miller in the middle. Hardik Pandya bowled a full toss and Miller smashed it towards long off. Considering the contact he had made, the ball looked destined to clear the fence but Suryakumar Yadav stationed himself perfectly underneath to take a blinder. The catch ostensibly won India the T20 World Cup as Miller was the last recognised batter who possessed the ability to score as many runs in the final over.
