On Thursday, Team India thrashed England by 68 runs at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, to advance to the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Batting first, India posted a challenging total of 171/7 on the board, which proved to be too much for England's batting, who surrendered in front of skillful spin bowling of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Patel was adjudged the Player of the Match for displaying outstanding figures of 4 overs, 23 runs, and 3 wickets. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 10 runs in 6 balls.

With the target being 172 and Jos Buttler firing at the start, it began to seem like a Deja vu of sorts of the 2022 Adelaide Oval semi-final where England defeated India by 10 wickets. However, Rohit Sharma came prepared this time. He assessed the surface brilliantly and brought spinners early on. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav rolled through the English batting leading to a big win for India. Team India's victory means an entry into the final of the tournament where South Africa had cemented its place by beating Afghanistan by 9 wickets.
