Aaron Finch lauds Rohit Sharma's batting approach against Bangladesh despite scoring 23(11)
India captain Rohit Sharma has won praise from former Australian captain Aaron Finch for revolutionizing the team's batting approach in Twenty20 Internationals. Following their stunning 50-run victory over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 round, Rohit emphasised the need of all eight batsmen in the lineup making aggressive contributions rather than concentrating on individual accomplishments.
Hardik Pandya's 50 off 27 balls was the only half-century as India amassed a massive 196/5 in their 20 overs. After the game, Finch praised the Indian captain for changing the team's batting approach to put pressure on the opposition right away. He pointed out that this strategy was helping the younger players as well. Speaking on Star Sports, Aaron Finch said:
“I loved what Rohit said it’s about having an impact on the game. It’s not about having 50s or 100s, it’s about changing the game and putting Bangladesh on the backfoot from the second over itself. It’s a change of mindset for youngsters who’re told to get hundreds, get fifties, get two hundreds whereas the modern game and you see the youngsters who’re 18,19 and 20 coming into the game now. They will say, you know what, it’s all about four overs and I can win the game for my team,”
‘That’s what I love about Rohit Sharma, we saw in the lead up to the 50-over World Cup and right the way through. He wasn’t compromising on the way he was going to play and he copped some flak for it because he wasn’t getting big scores. But he said, I don’t care that’s how I want to play personally and that’s how I want the team to play, fearless cricket and he’s leading from the front again,”

In only 22 balls, he and his opening partner Virat Kohli—who hit 37 off 28 balls—put up a 39-run partnership for the first wicket. India won their fifth straight match to keep their winning run in the current competition intact. The Men in Blue will play Australia on Monday, June 24 at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, as they are almost to the semi-finals.
