The home team delivered precisely what the crowd had come to witness – a resounding four-wicket triumph over New Zealand. This win marked India's first against the Kiwis in ODI World Cups in two decades, propelling them to the top of the tournament's standings. Mohammed Shami won the player of the match for picking up five wickets in his 10 overs.

PM Modi wishes Team India
Following this historic victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the Indian team for their outstanding performance. PM Modi lauded the ‘splendid team effort’ shown by the Rohit Sharma-led side in the match. He said that the dedication and skill displayed by the players was exemplary. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took to his social media handle to wish Team India.
Virat Kohli misses out on a major milestone
Meanwhile, former India captain Virat Kohli missed out on his 49th ODI century as he was dismissed for 95 off 104 balls. Kohli was eyeing Sachin Tendulkar's record, who has the most number of centuries in ODI cricket. Despite taking India closer to the target, Kohli couldn't get his hundred as Matt Henry removed him in the penultimate over.

Ravindra Jadeja finished the game for India with an unbeaten score of 39 off 44 balls. Earlier, Rohit Sharma scored a quickfire 46 off 40 balls. The victory has propelled India to the top of the ODI World Cup 2023 points table. India are the only undefeated team in this tournament thus far. The Men in Blue will play against England in their next match on October 29.
