ODI World Cup 2023 Updated Points Table: India remain firm on top after South Africa choke again

South Africa's defeat against the Netherlands did not dent their place on the points table as they are still at number three.

SA vs NED: Nerlands pulled off one of biggest upsets in history of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup after y defeated South Africa in ir clash on Wednesday. ODI World Cup match taking place in Dharamsala saw South Africa choke at hands of minw Nerlands, who won by 38 runs. This is second time Nerlands defeated South Africa in a World Cup game. Last year, Proteas were beaten in T20 World Cup in Australia by Dutch side.

ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023: Updated Points Table

Indian cricket team is currently at top of ODI World Cup 2023 points table with three wins in as many matches. India have a net run rate of 1.821. New Zealand are placed second due to an inferior net run rate than India despite same number of points. South Africa's defeat against Nerlands did t dent ir place on points table as y are still at number three. Pakistan also four points after having played three matches and won two. 

England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Australia, and Nerlands all have two points each with one win in three matches. y are placed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively. Sri Lanka are at bottom of standings as y have t won a single match in tournament thus far.

South Africa vs Nerlands

Following a delayed start due to rain right after toss, match was eventually reduced to a 43-over per side contest. With overcast conditions and a ticeable chill in mountain air, South Africa's fast bowlers, including Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Lungi Ngidi, found substantial assistance from pitch. However, it was ir performance during death overs that raised several questions. Nerlands, led by ir skipper Scott Edwards, mand to score an impressive 105 runs for loss of only one wicket in last 10 overs of match.

Nerlands were in trouble when ir innings started but Edwards played a captain's kck to help m post a fighting total of 245/8 in 43 overs. South Africa were still favourites until n. However, Dutch bowlers came into second innings with full force and took five wickets for 89 runs on board. y n dismissed rest of batters to win by 38 runs. Edwards was named player of match for his unbeaten 78 off 69 balls. He also took three catches in match.
