Low scores by Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav in the ICC T20 World Cup final between South Africa and India caused early disappointments. Heinrich Klaasen caught Suryakumar Yadav off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada after he had just scored 3 runs. Renowned for his forceful batting, Rishabh Pant was unable to contribute much either, scoring 0 runs in 2 balls before being dismissed.
Though Virat Kohli remained at the crease, his departure of Pant and Yadav affected India's performance. Pant's removal put more strain on India's middle order. Leading South African spinners Rabada and Maharaj took advantage of these early breakthroughs to restrict India's chances to score runs. As the game wore on, Pant and Yadav's inability to produce meaningful performances put India in a difficult position.
