India displayed a resilient performance to clinch victory over South Africa in the thrilling final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Setting a target of 177, India's skipper Rohit Sharma’s early departure seemed to boost South Africa's morale. However, a determined Virat Kohli rose to the occasion with a stellar 76 off 59 balls. In response, South Africa fell short by 7 runs despite a valiant innings by Heinrich Klaasen. Player of the Match, Kohli's exceptional batting combined with Bumrah's impactful bowling sealed India's triumph, ending a long wait for the prestigious title. Right after the World Cup triumph, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20 format.

PM Narendra Modi wishes Ravindra Jadeja on his T20I retirement

PM Narendra Modi extended heartfelt wishes to Ravindra Jadeja following his retirement from T20 cricket after India's T20 World Cup triumph. Modi praised Jadeja's exceptional performances, emphasizing his contributions to Indian cricket. The Prime Minister lauded Jadeja's dedication and wished him success in his future endeavors. Modi's message recognized Jadeja's pivotal role in the historic T20 World Cup victory for India, celebrating his illustrious career.

Following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja is the most recent veteran of Team India to declare his retirement from Twenty20 internationals following India's World Cup victory at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Announced his departure from the format on Instagram, Ravindra Jadeja wrote,

“With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support”.

Maybe Ravindra Jadeja knew this was his last World Cup, as his results in the format undoubtedly suffered greatly.

Jadeja scored 35 runs and grabbed 1 wicket in the eight matches he played for India in this world cup.

Getting back into the Indian team was always going to be challenging for Ravindra Jadeja because of the new generation of players breaking through. How better, then, to end the format than by helping India win the World Cup.
