Sourav Ganguly says Virat Kohli could also fail
From captain Rohit Sharma to head coach Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli receives immense backing ahead of the IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2024 final. Even the official Instagram handle of ICC has posted about Virat Kohli, expecting a Virat Kohli show in the highly anticipated finale. Adding his opinion into the bracket is former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
According to Ganguly, Kohli is a generational talent and should not be questioned as could fail as well. The former India captain made it known that he wants to see Virat Kohli open the innings.
"Don't even talk bout Virat Kohli," Ganguly was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. "He's a once in a lifetime player. Virat should continue to open. He just had a World Cup of 700 runs seven months ago. He is human. Sometimes, he will also fail, and you have to accept it."
Ganguly kept Kohli in the category of greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
“People like Kohli, Tendulkar, Dravid, they are institutions for Indian cricket. Three-four matches don’t make them weaker players. Don’t rule him out in the final tomorrow,” Ganguly said.
Ganguly says Kohli is saving his best for the final
Ganguly concluded by pointing out that being a player, Kohli could also have a dip in the form but Kohli is looking good and should be judged on the intent he has showcased in the tournament till now.
“He (Kohli) is a quality player. Any player can go through (dip in form) that. We do understand his class and we do understand his importance in all these big games. Form is never a problem. When you’ve played cricket for 15 years, form is never a problem. He’s looking good, the intent is there, he’s probably saving for the final,” Rohit said.
