With Team India's group stage match set to end after one match, Team India made some vital calls in their travelling reserves squad. The Indian Cricket team had four players who were named as the travelling reserve, and among them were Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh. Before heading to the Super 8 Stage, the management made the decision to release Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan from the squad. However, in the case of Shubman Gill, there might be more to his release as the star-batter, who featured in the ODI World Cup as the opener alongside Rohit Sharma, may have gone through some trouble with the team management.

Shubman Gill's release from the India squad may be more than what is being said
Shubman Gill was a part of the team in the first batch of players who went to the US. With the group stage leg in the US ending soon, Gill and Avesh Khan were released from the squad, while Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed were kept in case of injury replacements.
"Shubman and Avesh were supposed to only stay till the group league stages in the United States. That was pre-decided. So, after the Ireland game, they will be released from the squad," a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.
However, if reports are to be believed, the purported reason for Gill's return is deemed as 'disciplinary concerns'. Since arriving in the United States, he has not been spotted travelling with the team. Besides, he is said to spend his time away from the team and instead engage in side projects. He did come to the United States of America with Team India, but he was not visible at the Nassau County Stadium cheering on Rohit Sharma and his teammates, unlike Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who all made an appearance during the India vs Pakistan encounter.

Team India will play one more game in the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on June 15, 2024, against Canada, before proceeding to the Super 8 stage. With a washout giving the US an advantage and 'Qudrat ka Nizam' not working out for the Babar Azam-led side this year, the Men in Blue and the US have officially qualified for the Super 8. India's Super 8 opponents have been confirmed: they will take on Australia and Afghanistan. As the competition goes on, one more opponent will be chosen.
