India's regular Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha will look to move past MS Dhoni on the list of wicketkeepers with most dismissals between India and Bangladesh in Tests when he takes the field in the two-match series starting November 14.
India will lock horns with Bangladesh in the first Test in Indore which starts on Thursday. Between India and Bangladesh in Tests, Saha has seven dismissals from two Tests while MS Dhoni tops the list with 15 from three Tests.
Dinesh Karthik is second on the list with 12 dismissals to his name while Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is on the third spot with 11 dismissals. Former Bangladesh cricketer Khaled Mashud is fourth with eight wickets.
Rahim had the opportunity to move past Dhoni in the first Test but the seasoned campaigner will not keep wickets most probably as he had said he was giving up wicket-keeping in Tests to manage his workload. Mohammad Mithun is likely to be Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper in the Test series.
MS Dhoni is currently the record holder of most dismissals in an India-Bangladesh Test (series) as he had affected 8 in the one-off Test between the two nations in 2009-10.
Most dismissals affected by a wicketkeeper in India-Bangladesh Tests
MS Dhoni: 15, Catches: 12, Stumpings: 3
Dinesh Karthik: 12, Catches: 11, Stumpings: 1
Mushfiqur Rahim: 11, Catches: 9, Stumpings: 2
Khaled Mashud: 8, Catches: 5, Stumpings - 3
Wriddhiman Saha: 7, Catches: 5, Stumpings: 2
Saha was preferred over Rishabh Pant in the three-match Test series against South Africa at home earlier this year. The Bengal wicket-keeper made a comeback to the team and was impressive behind the wickets as he affected 12 dismissals, 11 catches and a stumping in three Tests against the Proteas.
With India and Bangladesh set to play their first-ever day-night Test in Kolkata from November 22, Saha is expected to be busy behind the wickets as the pink ball is expected to nip around a bit more than the red one.
