Young India Star Plays Down Comparisons With Virat And Rohit, Reflects On His Equation With Gill

IND vs ZIM 5th T20I: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been two of the greatest cricket players of all time. Not just Indian cricket, the impact left by Virat and Rohit will be spoken about by generations to come. After India scripted history at Barbados on June 29, 2024 by winning the T20 World Cup for the second time, the legendary duo announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Is Not A Big Fan Of Comparisons

Indian cricket is in transitional phase and the onus falls upon the Indian youngsters to ensure that the 'Men in Blue' continue to dominate world cricket. While accepting his player of match award after the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup Finals, Virat Kohli said that he has an ample amount of faith in the Indian youngsters and the talent that they have. Virat also reiterated the fact that there was no better way to sign off than to win the World Cup.

After the fourth IND vs ZIM T20I, young Yashasvi Jaiswal was asked about his opening combination with Shubman Gill and how they fare when compared to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Jaiswal said:

I think what they have done for Indian cricket is just incredible and being a part of that dressing room is a blessing. We (him and Gill) are trying to take it match-by-match and one day at a time, concentrating on the process. every time you talk to Rohit bhai or Virat bhaiyya, I get a lot of experience, enjoy talking to them and learning from them.

The Start Of A New Era

Gautam Gambhir recently succeeded Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of the Indian team. With Rohit-Virat gone from T20Is and Gambhir taking over the charge from Rahul Dravid, Indian cricket will have a lot to achieve in the future. Gambhir is to remain as Team India's Head Coach till 2027 and will have to oversee things in five ICC trophies to be played in the next three years.
