Former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh on Wednesday was named as the Maratha Arabians' icon player for the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League. This will be his second appearance in a franchise-based tournament since he announced his international retirement in June 2019. He last played in the Global T20 Canada League in July-August for Toronto Nationals and captained the team.

In six innings, the southpaw scored 153 runs with the highest score of 51 at a strike rate of 145.71. Nationals finished third in the league stage of the six-team tournament. They lost the Eliminator match against the Winnipeg Hawks.
A few days ago, Maratha Arabians had signed former England coach Andy flower as their head coach. West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo is the captain of the team. The franchise also named their retained players in the form of Lasith Malinga, Chris Lynn, Hazratullah Zazai and Najeebullah Zadran among others. Former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath was part of their squad in 2018. The team is co-owned by Bollywood actor Sohail Khan and businessmen Parvez Khan and Ali Tumbi.

An exciting new format to be a part of: Yuvraj
Speaking about playing in the Abu Dhabi T10, Yuvraj said that it was an exciting new format to be part of. He was looking forward to joining forces with some of the world's biggest names in this league and representing Maratha Arabians. Yuvraj added that it is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket and added that it was heartwarming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such an exciting format for sports enthusiasts.

Sohail Khan, who is the co-owner of Maratha Arabians, told a leading news daily that it was terrific to have a world-class player like Yuvi in their squad. They had all seen his exploits for India in various formats. Khan said that Yuvraj is a champion cricketer and one of the all-time greats in white-ball cricket. It was a huge honour to have him in their squad.
Yuvraj played a major role for India in their triumphs in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. He had also hit six sixes in an over in 2007 WC off Stuart Broad's bowling. He retired from international cricket earlier this year.
