EA drops Washington's 'Redskins' name from Madden NFL 21?

Washington's NFL team is bracing for an overhaul ahe of 2020 season. franchise recently bowed to increasing pressure from fans and sponsors to finally drop controversial 'Redskins' nickname. While NFL team is yet to finalise a new nickname, merchandise sellers have alrey started taking down 'Redskins' apparel from ir stores.

According to  latest reports, Electronic Arts (EA) will also be removing Redskins from ir official simulation game Mden NFL 21. EA recently dropped a teaser Deep Dive video for NFL 21, where NFL team was still identified as Washington Redskins. However, a representative for EA confirmed to USgamer that live version of game, releasing August 28, will t feature nickname r logo for team.

"We are pleased to see Washington's decision to change ir team name and visual identity," representative told publication. "We are quickly working to update Mden NFL 21 to feature a generic Washington team, while we await final word on updated team name and logo design."

Per report, EA will release Mden NFL 21 with a generic name for Washington NFL team. As soon as owner Dan Snyder and co finalise ir new nickname along with design for ir new logo, EA will release an update which will be a complete pack, including audio and commentary updates, motion graphics and presentation, stium art, environments, crowd gear and sign, and uniforms.

Redskin name change and hunt for a new identity

Despite resisting a name change for years w, Dan Snyder was forced to reconsider team's name after recent protests started affecting team's potential revenues. Sponsors like FedEx and Nike put pressure on franchise to drop controversial nickname. latter even took down all Washington merchandise from its official website.

On July 13, NFL team released a statement which ted "Redskins' name and team logo will be retired moving forward. team also said it will w looking to move forward with a new identity ahe of upcoming season. "Redtails", "Warriors", "Redhawks" and several or nicknames have been put forth by fans as potential new name for franchise.

Mden NFL 21 will be released on August 28 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stia, and PC. EA also ted that an updated version of game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox X when gaming consoles hit market.
