It will be an emotional moment for several fans as they aim to come in masses to watch Sunil Chhetri play for one last time in the national colors. As he inches close towards his swansong, one of Real Madrid's top stars has sent out a humble message for the retiring Indian football captain.

Ahead of his last international match before retiring, Real Madrid's star midfielder and Croatia captain Luka Modric delivered a touching farewell greeting to India captain Sunil Chhetri. Prior to India's June 6 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Kuwait, the Los Blancos number 10 gave Chhetri his due recognition for his remarkable 19-year international career.

"Hi Sunil! I just wanna say hello and wish you all the best for your last game with the national team. Congratulations on your career. You are a legend of this game, and to your teammates, I hope you make his last game special and unforgettable. Good luck and win for your captain. All the best and love from Croatia," Modric said in his video shared by the Indian football coach Igor Stimac on X (Formerly Twitter).

Luka Modric is coming off a Champions League win with Real Madrid as he won his sixth title with the Los Blancos. Now, the Croatian footballer is gearing up for his national side to compete in the UEFA Euro 2024.

Sunil Chhetri has been a man who has reached unprecedented heights and has delivered for the Indian National football team when they needed to. He has built a legacy which stands alongside the game's legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. With 94 goals, Chhetri is the third-highest goalscorer in International football. Chhetri has announced his retirement and the India-Kuwait FIFA World Cup Qualifiers will be his swansong, and it will happen where it all started for him, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharti Kriangan, aka the Salt Lake Stadium.
