The abuser in question was promptly ejected by the authorities after some fans who were disgusted by the vile abuse directed at the Liverpool player brought the issue to the attention of the stewards. A club statement from Manchester United said that racism and all similar forms of discrimination would not be tolerated by the club, and such issues do not reflect the values of the club. The Greater Manchester Police were also made aware of the situation. United's swift action was welcomed by Liverpool. Liverpool further went on to say that they support the strongest possible action that is bound to be taken against anyone found to be responsible for the incident.

Marcus Rashford himself was the subject of racial abuse back in August, along with his teammate Paul Pogba. The two were the victim of racist abuse on social media, after missing their penalties in Manchester United's August fixtures. The swift action taken by the Red Devils, however, will be welcomed across the board, as world football struggles to eradicate the issue of racism from the sport.
