The Indian football team had to settle for a 1-1 draw in front of the home fans at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata against Bangladesh. The Blue Tigers had to come from behind as an Adil Khan header late in the second half rescued the home team. While Adil Khan was brilliant in the last 45', he made some rather uncharacteristic errors in the first half of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier. However, there was a hidden reason behind his slow start to the match.

Ind vs Ban World Cup qualifier: Adil Khan secures a crucial point against Bangladesh

Adil Khan was getting ready to enter the team room ahead of the Bangladesh clash earlier this week when he received a call. The person over the phone told Adil that his father Badruddin Khan was in the hospital with two heart blockages and was in dire need of a surgery. In fact, when Adil Khan took to the pitch at the Salt Lake Stadium against Bangladesh for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier, his father was on the operation table. As India were heading towards a surprising loss, Adil Khan met a corner-kick from fellow Goan Brandon Fernandes at the near post to rescue a point in the 88th minute. Adil Khan dedicated his first goal at the international level to his father, wife and injured Indian defence partner - Sandesh Jhingan.
