Indian Football defender Anwar Ali has been embroiled in a large controversy after his move to East Bengal FC. The AIFF imposed strong sanctions against the centre-back superstar after being found guilty of illegally terminating his deal with the Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The three parties are looking forward to challenge AIFF's decision upon the defender as they have filed a petition for the same in the Delhi High Court.

Anwar Ali, East Bengal & Delhi FC Move to Delhi Hc Against Aiff’s Player Sanctions on Footballer

After the AIFF sanctioned a four-month suspension on defender Anwar Ali, the three parties — Anwar, East Bengal and Delhi FC — have moved to the Delhi High Court to challenge AIFF's move and sought a stay order on the player's suspension. Delhi FC owner Ranjit Bajaj confirmed to PTI that a writ petition has been filed and it has been listed by the High Court.

"We have filed a writ petition with the Delhi High Court and it has been listed for tomorrow. It is item number eight. All three parties have filed the petition on various grounds.

"How can we let the player lose out on matches in the coming days. You can get money back but you can't get the matches back once they are played, you can't get the time back," Delhi FC owner Ranjit Bajaj said.

One of East Bengal's top officials has also stated that the football club has reached out to the Delhi High Court because they do not want the player to miss any Indian Super League games, which begins on Friday until the AIFF's Appeals Committee finalizes a decision.

"We have gone to the Appeals Committee, till the time the Appeals Committee decides we want Anwar to play, he should not be deprived of game time till that time. The player's career should not be affected at all cost. That is our argument, nothing else. Let's see what happens later," the EBFC official said.

Anwar Ali, 23, scored three goals and dished out one assist in 26 games to help Mohun Bagan win the ISL Shield the previous season. However, the India center-back's move to East Bengal caused a stir, and the MBSG supporters have been hating him as FC Barcelona supporters did to Luis Figo. All India Football Federation handed Anwar a four-month suspension following their verdict against the defender. Additionally, the two clubs — EBFC and DFC — have been asked to pay Mohun Bagan a staggering amount of  ₹12.90 crore.
