Arsenal accused of discriminating against Ozil in open letter from Turkish Cypriot leaders

Turkish Cypriot leaders, in an open letter to Arsenal, have blamed the club for overtly discriminating against Mesut Ozil for his stand on various issues.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has emerged as somewhat of a controversial figure at Emirates, particularly since last season. German maestro, who has been quite vocal about geopolitical issues concerning a particular community, saw himself being excluded from squad for Premier League as well as Europa League. w, Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations has expressed its concerns about discriminatory behaviour being meted out to Gunners outcast.

Mesut Ozil being discriminated: Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations

Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations has written an open letter to Arsenal, blaming club for discriminating against Ozil. letter also slams Premier League heavyweights for "overtly discriminating against our community". tably, organisation represents 300,000-strong Turkish Cypriot population residing in UK. 

Chairman of organisation, Ertugrul Mehmet, has blamed club for its discriminatory behaviour against Ozil as compared to or n-British players for standing up against injustice. letter claims club distanced mselves from Ozil's comments on plight of Uighur community in China.

Letter slams Arsenal's contrasting opinions 

letter goes on to state that Arsenal did t take any action against Hector Bellerin when defender urged people to vote in UK general election under a 'cuss' hashtag directed at British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Arsenal also came out in support of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he spoke out against police brutality in Nigeria.

chairman also went on to warn  Emirates-based outfit that y could end up destroying ir relationship with Turkish fan base in rth London. letter explicitly mentions club are particularly discriminating against ir community, citing its recent stand on some major issues.

Ozil hasn't played a competitive game for Gunners since March 7, but still pockets £350,000 a week - most at club. 2014 World Cup winner is keen on seeing out his contract which ends at end of current season, despite falling down pecking order under Mikel Arteta. 

Arsenal were keen on terminating his contract previous summer and an exit option was also being pondered upon. But midfielder continued at club with prospective suitors. He also refused to accept a pay cut following club's financial crisis, forcing Arteta to exclude him from Premier League and Europa League squad.
