Arsenal beat Bournemouth 1-0; David Luiz scores his first for Gunners

After David Luiz scored his first-ever goal for the Gunners, Arsenal edged up to third position in the Premier League table with hopes of securing a top 4 finish this season. Arsenal's climb up the table comes after the team beat Bournemouth 1-0 on Sunday with Luiz scoring the only goal of the match. The Brazilian who has always been a centre of quirky defensive gimmicks since his transfer from Chelsea in August. However, Luiz stepped up against Bournemouth as jumped to score the only goal of the match off Nicholas Pepe's corner.

Arsenal seal victory with 1-0

Bournemouth, who seemed to dominate most of the game had enough chances to score but failed to do so. Callum Wilson missed the cleanest opportunity whereas Dominic Solanke headed a Rico free-kick wide. With their first clean sheet this season, Unai Emery's men stand above Leicester, Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the early run to qualify for the Champions League next season. Pepe who has been struggling to meet the expectations of the $88 million price tag, absorbed the pressure and proved his worth in the match. Gabriel Martinelli, who made his second Premier League appearance coming off the bench, created a chance to make the scoreline 2-0 but just looped over the crossbar. Emery's men, however, faced a nervy five minutes of injury time as Matteo Guendouzi made a brilliant block to deny Josh King a worthy equaliser and Steve Cook headed over from the resulting corner. Arsenal's star striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had an unlikely quite evening as he hit the woodwork only once in the stoppage time.

Premier League Standings 

Currently, Liverpool sits at the top of the table with 24 points having kept a clean chit in the season so far. City, who is second on the table, faced a minor niggle in the match against Wolves on Sunday who handed them their second loss of the season. Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea follow the top two at third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Arsenal next face Sheffield United F.C.in the Premier League on October 22.
