Bayern Munich fans stage protest against match delays due to Queen Elizabeth II's death

The fans unveiled a huge banner in the stands as a mark of protest against the UK government and called for match officials to 'respect fans'.

A section of spectators were spotted staging a controversial banner protest during UEFA Champions League 2022-23 match between Bayern Munich and Barcelona on Tuesday. Bayern Munich fans protested against recent delays in fixtures due to death of Queen Elizabeth II. fans unveiled a huge banner in stands as a mark of protest against UK government and called for match officials to 'respect fans' while making se decisions.

banner, which was unveiled in 26th minute of Champions League match at Allianz Arena, re, "Last Minute Match Delays And Bans Because Of A Royal's Death - Respect Fans”. A report by ESPN claims that protests might be targeted toward Champions League Group A fixture between Rangers and Napoli in Glasgow was delayed by 24 hours. While match will be played on Wednesday, traveling fans have been barred to attend game at Ibrox.

More about postponed football fixtures

This development comes after all games in England, Scotland, Wales, and Norrn Ireland were postponed last weekend, after British Monarch passed away last Thursday. While fixtures are scheduled to take place in coming weekends, Chelsea vs Liverpool and Manchester United vs Leeds Premier League 2022-23 matches have been postponed after  police were diverted toward  Queen’s funeral on Monday.

UEFA postpones Arsenal vs PSV Eindhoven

At same time, Europa League 2022-23 match between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven, which was scheduled to be played on Thursday, has also been postponed. Over a million people are expected to reach London in coming days to pay ir respects to Queen. Coming back to  Champions League match between Bayern and Barcelona, home side went on to pick a 2-0 win as Robert Lewandowski failed to score a goal against his former club.

Lucas Hernandez opened scoresheet in 50th minute with first goal of night. Leroy Sane hit anor goal four minutes later to hand Bayern a 2-0 le, which was defended successfully. Barcelona won ir previous Champions League match by 5-1, while Bayern won 0-2 against Serie A club Inter Milan.
