Brazil's FIFA World Cup squad unfurls 'Pele' banner after reaching quarterfinals

Brazil advanced into the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Monday night and unfurled a banner featuring Pele after defeating South Korea.

Day 16 of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 concluded with . 1 ranked team in FIFA Rankings, Brazil earning qualification for quarterfinals. Brazil team defeated South Korea by 4-1 in exciting fixture and were later seen unfurling a banner in support of legendary footballer Pele, who is currently in hospital. 82-year-old Pele is widely regarded as one of greatest of game, who helped team to win three FIFA World Cups in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

Pele has reportedly been in hospital since vember 29 last week, receiving treatment for a respiratory infection. Reports also claimed that former footballer’s condition h worsened after his body stopped responding to medicines. While entire football world has displayed ir support for legend by different means, Brazilian team also decided to unfurl a banner with Pele’s name after ir 4-1 win over South Korea.

'I'll watch game from here at hospital': Pele ahe of Brazil vs South Korea

Meanwhile, Brazilian stalwart took to his official Instagram handle ahe of Brazil vs South Korea game and revealed he will be watching out for players. "In  1958, in Sweden, I was walking through streets thinking about fulfilling promise I me to my far. I kw that many of national team (players) me similar promises and are also looking for ir first World Cup,” Pele wrote in caption.

"I want to inspire you, my friends. I'll watch game from here at hospital and I'll be rooting for each one of you. We are on this journey toger. Good luck to our Brazil," his post ded. Earlier on Friday last week, iconic Al Jaber Twin Towers in Lusail, lit up with an im of Pele and Brazilian flag while footballer recovers at Sao Paulo hospital.

At same time, ims of a young Pele lifting trophies and celebrating his goals in Brazilian colours on shirts, flags, and banners have also been on full display at marquee football event. 10 minutes into Brazil’s Round of 16 games Brazilian fans also opened a banner that featured Pele, behind one of goals at Stium 974, a reference to . 10 jersey that he used to wear.
