Vasek Pospisil defeated Reily Opelka 7(7)-6(5), 7(9)-6(7) in the first singles match, and Denis Shapovalov defeated Taylor Fritz 7(8)-6-3 in the second singles match. However, USA emerged victorious in the second singles match with the duo of Sam Querry and Jack Sock having a walkover victory due to injuries in the Canadian camp.

Shapovalov later said, "It's amazing, honestly it's just such an honour to play for my country, represent it. I think the whole team is putting such an amazing effort. The fans are spectacular, it's not just me, it's the whole team and everyone around us. I feel like I'm in really good shape and of course, the confidence is high, especially beating Matteo [Berrettini] yesterday shows again that my game is there, so in those tough moments, in those tough holds, I was able to play some amazing points, so hopefully that can continue."

On the other hand, Spain defeated Russia 2-1. The Russians won the first singles match, with Andrey Rublev defeating Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3, 3-6, 6(0)-7(7). However, the host nation had the world's number one men's tennis player in Rafael Nadal, who defeated Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7(9)-6(7). Spain reigned victorious in the doubles match as well, with Marcel Granollers and Feliciano Lopez defeated Khachanov and Rublev 6-4, 7(7)-6(5).  Later, Lopez said, "We have to be very happy because we were very close to being out of the competition. Rafa evened the tie and then we were able to win, but we were very close to being out, to have a very small chance of being in the quarter-finals."

Nadal, on the other hand, spoke about how important winning each game is. He said, "The format makes things very difficult because every mistake put you in a position that you don't want to be. Losing that first match, we were under pressure with the rest of the groups. You make a mistake in one singles match, and in the doubles, anything can happen. So things are beautiful that way, too. But at the same time, for the best teams, it makes things so dangerous."
