Al-Nassr and Al-Raed battled to a 1-1 draw at the Al-Awwal Stadium in a fiercely fought Saudi Pro League game. Opening the score for Al-Nassr in the 34th minute with a powerful header, Cristiano Ronaldo marked his first goal of the season. Al-Raed matched, however, with Mohamed Fouzair's 49th-minute penalty. After a fierce exhibition of football, the game ended with a shared point for both teams despite Ronaldo's efforts and a disallowed goal because of offside.

Al-Nassr coach Luis Castro made a huge statement about Saudi Pro League opener vs Al-Raed

On August 22, Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr drew a 1-1 against Al-Raed in their debut Saudi Pro League 2024/25 game. Ronaldo scored in the first half; Al-Raed equalised with a penalty in the second half, therefore losing points from Al-Nassr.

The second half's critical point came when Ronaldo's 76th-minute goal was denied for offside. After a protracted VAR review, the goal was ruled out even though the Portuguese attacker scored with accuracy through-ball.

Al-Nassr manager Luis Castro voiced his annoyance with the refereeing after the game, claiming that Ronaldo's goal was wrongfully denied. Castro also thought that his squad ought to have received a not granted penalty. He said, via Al-Nassr Zone on X:

“A game we dominated, we had 100 attacks and 13 corners.”

“Mistakes led to our draw today.”

“We are going through difficult times and we need the fans with us.”

“I saw something strange. The referee called the VAR because there was a penalty kick, but he then decided not to give it.”

“I will not give up and we can win the league.”

Ronaldo has excelled significantly after his transfer to Saudi Arabia in January 2023. After departing from Manchester United and European football, he has excelled at Al-Nassr, netting 60 goals and providing 16 assists in 66 matches. His latest goal against Al-Raed brings his tally to 61 goals in 67 appearances. Cristiano Ronaldo will now be seen in action next week as Al-Nassr faces Al-Feiha in the SPL on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
