Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas said Monday he will t run for presidency of Spanish soccer federation. Casillas said main reason that led him to change his mind was exceptional social, ecomic and health situation that our country is suffering. This makes elections take a back seat," 39-year-old former Spain captain said in a statement published on Twitter.
Casillas won't seek presidency
I think it is time to add and t divide." Casillas had anunced his candidacy in February, saying he wanted to raise federation to same level of Spanish soccer, which he called best in world. He said his decision does t mean a closed door for future. I wanted a fair, transparent and truly participatory electoral process, looking for best for Spanish football," he said. I hope that in next elections it can happen with me or with or candidates. This year's elections have been set for August. Luis Rubiales is current federation president. He took over in 2018.
