Celtic confirmed Scottish Premiership champions, Hearts relegated as SPFL end season

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic were crowned champions for the ninth time in a row as the SPFL decided to cut short the 2019-20 season with Hearts relegated.

Neil Lenn's Celtic FC were crowned champions of Scottish Premiership 2019-20 season on Monday, May 18, following a decision from Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). Scottish Premiership season was cut short due to  coronavirus Scotland crisis and Celtic were awarded title for a ninth time in succession. With Celtic being awarded Scottish Premiership title, Hearts of Midlothian FC have been relegated to Scottish Championship as y were at opposite end of table when season was suspended in early March.

SPFL: Celtic crowned Scottish Premiership winners

Amid coronavirus Scotland crisis, SPFL consulted with all 12 clubs in Scottish top tier and league standings in division were decided by a points-per-game model, drawing curtains to a campaign that will t be played out until  end. Celtic were at summit of Scottish Premiership when coronavirus halted football in Scotland. Neil Lenn's Celtic side were 13 points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers after 30 games in top tier. Although Steven Gerrard's Rangers had a game in hand, y will comfortably finish in second place with points system as Morwell, Aberdeen, Livingstone and Hibernian will make up remainder of top six.  However, at  bottom of table, Hearts will be slipping out of Scottish Premiership.

SPFL: Hearts relegated from Scottish Premiership

Hearts were rock bottom on Scottish top division table with only four wins from 30 games. Edinburgh-based outfit were four points behind 11th-placed Hamilton when coronavirus suspended Scottish top flight. Hearts ended campaign with 23 points and will play ir football in Scottish Championship next season. SPFL made decision to relegate Hearts following unprecedented coronavirus crisis and board admitted that 'repercussions will be felt for a long time'.

SPFL: Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard top scorer 

Celtic star forward Odsonne Edouard finished as top scorer of Scottish Premiership 2019-20 season with 22 strikes to his name. Rangers forward Jermaine Defoe ended campaign with 13 goals and came in second on list of top scorers. Defoe's fellow teammate Alfredo Morelos racked up 12 goals and shared 3rd place with Hibernian's Christian Doidge.
