Heung-Min Son scored a brace as Tottenham comfortably beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0 away from home in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Tottenham have eased the pressure on them and will now need just another win to qualify to the next round of the tournament. The win on Wednesday was also their first victory on the road since May.
Champions League: Red Star Belgrade vs Tottenham Hotspur match report
Heung-Min Son was expected to be rested following the injury to Andre Gomes left him mentally drained but he was named in Mauricio Pochettino's starting lineup and played a starring role with two goals in Belgrade. Both sides missed early chances before Spurs eventually opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a scramble allowed Giovani Lo Celso to score for the visitors. Son added a second goal for the Spurs at the 57th minute after he fired the ball into the back of the net from Dele Alli's pass. The South Korean's celebration was a peculiar one as he made a praying sign while appearing to apologise.
Three minutes later he made it 3-0, scoring from Danny Rose's cross into the box. Christian Eriksen then squeezed in a fourth in the 85th minute to complete a comprehensive victory for Mauricio Pochettino's men. The result leaves Tottenham second in Group B on seven points, with victory at home to Olympiakos in their next match enough to confirm their qualification to the round of 16 of the Champions League.
