Arsenal's summer signing Nicolas Pepe came to Arsenal’s rescue with a penalty in the 59th minute. However, Aston Villa’s Brazilian striker Wesley handed the visitors the lead once again in the 60th minute. Playing with 10 men was never going to be easy but Unai Emery’s squad looked to be in the mood to bag all three points. Arsenal’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the three points for the home team when he scored the third goal in the 84th minute. However, the Gabonese forward was booked in the 95th minute for a rash challenge on Villa captain Jack Grealish in the dying minutes.
