Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been ruled out for England's next two Euro 2020 qualifier matches following the player's  ankle injury. The midfielder got injured during the club’s thrilling Champions League clash on Tuesday against Ajax at Stamford Bridge, which ended in both sides scoring four goals each. He was subbed off in the 59th minute and replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

England's matches are merely a week away

England’s Euro 2020 Qualifier games against Montenegro and Kosovo are not too far away and any extended absence would deny Mount from taking part in the Qualifiers. Gareth Southgate’s squad list is expected to be released on Thursday and Mount was believed to be a part of it according to British media reports last week. However, his recent injury woes will force Southgate to make an 11th-hour change to it.

Mount has already established himself as one of the key players for Chelsea in his first season as a regular in the playing 11. He has scored three goals and earned his England debut in September 2019, winning four caps ever since.

The worrying part about Mount’s injury for Chelsea is that it appears to be the same ankle he injured on his Champions League debut against Valencia back in September. He even had a quick recovery to pass a late fitness test and start the next game, which was a 1-2 loss against Premier League leaders Liverpool.
