In a massive blow for Netherlands just days before the start of Euro 2024 campaign, it has been confirmed that star Barcelona and Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong won't be able to recover in time from his ankle injury and will miss the Euros for his country.
Netherlands were counting on Frenkie De Jong to recover in time as he has been one of their best players in the last five years and crucial for the Oranjes chances to make a deep run and potentially win the tournament. Dutch manager Ronald Koeman who was also the former boss at Barcelona has ripped apart his former club and blamed them for mishandling Frenkie De Jong's injury which ended up aggravating it.

Frenkie De Jong injured his ankle way back on April 27th in his side's 3-2 defeat in El Clasico to Real Madrid. But Ronald Koeman suggested that De Jong was unfit before and Barcelona took a massive gamble which has ended up being worse for the player.

“He was not gonna be ready in three weeks, unfortunately. Frenkie has a history with this injury so we have to think about his health. The club over there decided to take risks and this is the price we have to pay for it,” said a frustrated Ronald Koeman as he put the blame on Barcelona for his injury.

Netherlands look to replace De Jong
Now Netherlands have a problem of replacing Frenkie De Jong in the squad. There is no like to like replacement for a player of De Jong's quality.
However reports have suggested that Ronald Koeman might look at the likes of Borussia Dortmund's Ian Maatsen to replace Frenkie.
