Europa League: Two Celtic fans were stabbed by masked men in Rome ahead of Celtic's match against Lazio in Rome. Celtic have asked its fans to remain cautious.

Two Celtic fans have been hospitalized after they were stabbed outside an Irish pub in Rome on Wednesday. The duo had travelled to Rome to watch their team’s Europa League clash against Lazio on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Stadio Olimpico. According to British media reports, eyewitnesses confirm that masked men attacked the fans and even threw a chair at one of them.

Europa League: Celtic fans stabbed ahead of Lazio clash

The incident happened outside the Flann O’Brien, an Irish pub, in the Italian capital city on Wednesday, 7th November. The masked men stabbed a 52-year-old man, while also attacking a 35-year-old man. The pub’s staff and Celtic supporters quickly took the injured men inside the pub while waiting for the ambulance. The police also arrived at the scene shortly after.

Europa League: Celtic urges fans to remain cautious

Celtic have issued a statement saying that they are aware of the incident and will provide all the help to the injured supporters. They have also issued safety measures to their supporters amid tensions in the Glasgow encounter between the two clubs. Supporters have been advised to avoid wearing the clubs colours while strolling in Rome and have also been asked to stay in large groups whenever possible and also keep a low profile.

Europa League: Lazio face Celtic

Celtic and Lazio were charged by the UEFA after their game in Glasgow on October 24 over illicit chanting. Celtic were also charged over the display of an illicit banner in the game they won 2-1.  Celtic are on top of the Europa League Group E after an unbeaten start to the tournament. They have won 2 games, including the one against Lazio while drawing one. Lazio, on the other hand, are 3rd in their group, having won only one of their three games. A win over Celtic would help Lazio close the gap on CFR Cluj and Celtic on the points table.
