Premier League giants Chelsea are believed to have entered the race to sign Lyon’s French striker Moussa Dembele, according to latest British media reports. Dembele is also wanted by many other clubs such as Manchester United in the Premier League. United’s scouts were seen in the match between Lyon and Toulouse in which he performed exceptionally well.
Chelsea transfer window ban
However, the Blues face a two-window transfer ban. Frank Lampard would be hoping that the club’s appeals are accepted before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland. This would possibly mean that Chelsea could sign players as early as January 2020 when the winter transfer window opens up.
United look to add attacking options
Manchester United look to reinforce their attack in January 2020 to cover up for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom departed to Inter Milan last summer. Dembele could be a massive threat upfront alongside Marcus Rashford should he be signed up by United. So far, the former Fulham and Celtic striker has scored 26 goals in 56 matches for the Ligue 1 side. It is also believed that Lyon are not ready to part ways with their star player, atleast in the winter transfer window. His contract with the French side ends in 2023 itself.
Giroud and Batshuayi are likely to depart from Chelsea
Chelsea have found a great striker in their academy graduate, Tammy Abraham. Abraham has been in great form this season, having scored nine goals in 11 Premier league matches this season. However, the club believes that Olivier Giroud might depart from Stamford Bridge along with rumours of Mitchy Batshuayi’s departure. Given their fine start to the season under Frank Lampard, the team is likely to need more options to try and compete in the UEFA Champions League.
