Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to battle it out for RB Leipzig star forward Timo Werner, in the coming January transfer window. Werner has scored 74 goals in 129 games for his side while providing 33 assists for teammates since joining from VfB Stuttgart in 2016.
Timo Werner could provide much-needed goals for Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be looking to add depth to his side’s misfiring attack led by Marcus Rashford, in order to finish among the top four teams in the Premier League. A finish in the top four would guarantee a Champions League spot next season. The manager did not re-inforce United’s attack after the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan. Solskjaer will look to acquire the services of the German striker, with the 23-year-old garnering interest across Europe with his impressive performances for the Bundesliga club.
Champions League winners Liverpool aim to buy Timo Werner
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has kept tabs on the striker’s career and is eyeing him to add another dimension to his already formidable attack. However, Klopp would prefer to sign Werner at the end of the season rather than in the winter transfer window. He’s happy with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane starring at the forefront of his attack, with Divock Origi being a brilliant deputy.
Werner has continued with his impressive goal scoring form this season, having netted 11 goals in 16 games for club and country, including a hat-trick of goals and assists in the 8-0 rout of Mainz. The player extended his current deal with RB Leipzig just three months back, signing a new contract that will keep him with Bundesliga outfit until 2023.
