‘Had to bring him off…’: Ten Hag Shares Manchester United Star's Condition Following Fulham Match

Manchester United defeated Fulham 1-0 in their first match of the 2024–25 Premier League season. The 87th minute rookie Joshua Zirkzee had the winning goal. Both teams made multiple tries; Manchester United had 14 shots, five of which were on target; Fulham had 10 shots, two of which were on target. Manchester United controlled the game with 56% of possession, therefore earning a just victory.

Erik Ten Hag provides an update on Harry Maguire’s fitness after United beat Fulham

After Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday, August 16, manager Erik ten Hag gave an update on Harry Maguire's condition. Having had a fantastic effort, the English defender was replaced in the 81st minute.

Starting their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford with a game against Fulham, the Red Devils Both teams had several of opportunities but missed the mark until Joshua Zirkzee, United's new acquisition, came off the bench to score the pivotal goal in the 87th minute.

Starting in defence for United, Maguire teamed alongside Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, and fresh recruit Noussair Mazraoui. He produced a strong performance, contributing one block, three interceptions, and five clearances. Maguire also finished 50 of 60 passes, won six out of nine duels, and had one out of two dribbling tries successful. For simulation, he did, however, get a yellow card.

In the 81st minute Maguire was replaced by seasoned defender Jonny Evans. Erik ten Hag said clearly on the matter (via Metro) when questioned following the game whether Maguire's replacement resulted from an injury. Erik Ten Hag said: 

"Not injured but I had to bring him off because he had a problem. Before he gets injured, a precaution.

“The win is very important of course, but I’m so happy no injuries today.”

Manchester United is now grappling with the loss of their recent acquisition, Leny Yoro, who is unable to play due to an injury in the central defence position. Notwithstanding this hindrance, the team has lately strengthened its defence by acquiring the services of Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender made his inaugural appearance for the Red Devils, entering the game as a replacement in their 1-0 victory over Fulham.
